Pregnancy is confirmed by positive values of the hormone known as beta HCG after missed period while
pregnancy viability is confirmed by observing fetal heartbeat from the 6 th week of gestation (counted as
6 weeks from the date of the first day of the last period, i.e. when beta HCG level reaches 1,000 IU). It is
recommended, at the first examination, to note all possible chronic diseases, previous gynecological
diseases and surgeries, and consult other specialists, as needed, in order to provide the pregnant
woman with an integrative, individualized and multidisciplinary approach. The pregnancy presents
‘altered state’, namely ‘a test for organs and organ systems capacity’ and it is wiser to timely know in
order to be one step ahead of possible issues. Thus, both maternal and fetal complications are
prevented.
